She was beauty editor and writer for Model’s Circle, a monthly beauty magazine, and stories about her have appeared in numerous newspapers and national magazines, including Cosmopolitan and Redbook.
ARTIST: When Oleda was thirty-eight, although she had never had an artist’s brush in her hand or a lesson in art or painting, she strode into an art store in New York City one day and purchased whatever supplies the sales people told her she needed, and tried her hand at putting her feelings on canvas. It was the realization of a long-held desire.
Since then Oleda’s visionary oil paintings have hung in galleries and halls around the country, including two extensive exhibitions in the Wichita Art Museum in Kansas, and the Museum of Florida Art, Deland, Florida. Her work can be viewed right here on Growing Bolder. just click on Oleda’s Visionary Art in the banner at the top of this page.
PHILOSOPHY:Oleda freely shares her philosophy for Life and Aging, as she puts herself up as a primary example of a vibrant octogenarian. She says living younger longer is mostly in our own hands. The trick is to think in terms of making many small, everyday correct choices that determine how the cells inside the body are affected by our choices, particularly diet and exercise.
She maintains that lifestyle and environment are the most important factors, not genes. “Genes are important, no denying that,” she says. “But, if, like the majority of people, we can avoid inheriting a tendency toward debilitating disease, studies prove that the decisions we make in day-to-day choices of how we live our lives account for at least 70 percent of the aging process. Even then, even if we are prone to cancer or heart disease because it runs in the family, there are choices we can make to try to counteract it. And I have the stories to prove it.”
